creative producing
As a creative producer I go beyond the project managing and admin.
I help curate, shape and create events, ensuring the smooth running and welfare of everyone involved in a project.
I have been fortunate to have worked on such a breadth of events and programmes across the arts, culture and in STEM creating tours, festivals, and events. My latest producing CV can be downloaded below or find out more about some of the current projects I have been producing in some of my recent highlights/ stories. or download my producing CV.
Project: Light, Ladd & Emberton
Role: Company Producer
Formed in 2014, Light, Ladd & Emberton are established dancer-choreographers Deborah Light, Eddie Ladd and Gwyn Emberton. I joined as creative producer in 2015.
Light, Ladd & Emberton’s vision is to be a catalyst for a creatively confident Cymru/Wales connecting across the world. Together, they collaborate to create performances that move people physically and emotionally. They embody untold and undertold stories, which are personal and universal (and if verbally, then always bilingually in Welsh/ English). They perform for and with publics, inhabiting spaces like castles, village halls, theatres and beaches.
As Creative Producer I have been integral in bringing award-winning CAITLIN and Owain Glyndŵr productions together, including funding, partnerships, company development, and producing tours across the UK and internationally.
What we achieved:
CAITLIN has toured multiple times: to venues in Wales from 2014-17; with two sell out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe (inc as part of British Council Edinburgh showcase); at Battersea Arts Centre as part of #ANationsTheatre; plus in India in January 2019. The show has also been filmed for BBC #DancePassion.
In 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, we reimagined the revolutionary silent disco experience of the Owain Glyndŵr rebellion, which had previously toured castles and festivals (Surf The Wave & the National Eisteddfod), becoming an online interactive disco sensation for Green Man’s Festival of Streams event.
Our short film amser/time - made for BBC #DancePassion with One Dance UK - is sure to be making waves at film fests.
“We have worked with Laura Drane on a number of occasions, and really enjoyed her energy, creativity and ‘can do’ approach. Her coordination of our work with the BBC Philharmonic on ‘Wonder: A Scientific Oratorio’ was a fantastic highlight.”
- Teresa Anderson, Jodrell Bank
“Her input on projects, with fundraising, and company management has been a deeply stabilising influence for the organisation. We could talk about Laura's reliability, her expertise over many years, her ability to get stuff done. But more than anything perhaps, Laura brings a sensitivity to and natural willingness to work within and around those vital intersections across arts and cultural work, anti-oppression work, healing justice work. The relationship is practical and strategic, yes, but also it's based upon a deep mutual listening, dialogue and an understanding that working at the pace of trust, and building meaningful solidarities, is also the work. It's not easy to always find people who are open to this approach beyond theoretical application. With Laura, it has been easy.”
